Nomads International 6-a-side Tournament 2012December 27, 2012 | Share The weekend of November 17 and 18 saw 24 teams descend onto the Nomads pitch for the annual International 6 –a-Side Tournament. Teams came from all over Asia and a festival of football was served. Nomads had 4 teams entered, three in the open competition and 1 in the Vets. The first day went very well for our teams with both Nomads A and Nomads B topping their groups to advance to Sunday's group competition. Meanwhile the Nomads Braves found the going quite tough in group D and were placed in the plate competition for Sunday. Sunday's action got underway with the first group games of the Vets category with the Nomads Oldies beating a Carnegies B52 team 6- 2 on route to the Vets final. Both the A and the B teams won their opening fixtures on the way to the Cup semi finals. Nomads A team beat the previous years winners Bangkok Anatolia courtesay of a golden goal and Nomads B lost to a very tough Hong Kong Swiss XI which meant they would contest the 3rd place playoff. Nomads Braves meanwhile found themselves in the bowl final which they comfortably won 5 – 0 against Red Star KL. The first final saw a repeat of the 2012 Vets final with Nomads taking on Shanghai Anzacs and emerging winners 4 – 1. The plate final saw Carnegies Taipei overcome the Vietnam Hotshots 3- 2 in a very entertaining game. Nomads B won their penalty shootout to take 3rd place before it was time for Nomads A to take on Hong Kong Swiss XI for the Cup. In a competitive match Nomads ran out 2 – 0 winners over very game opponents to take the title for the 4th time, in the tournament's 27 year history. We would like to thank our sponsors Jonathan Thorp of Howzat and Matt Freeston of Astoca as well as the many people at Nomads who combined to put on such a great weekend for Nomads Football and the Club itself. -Shane Cosgrove
